19TH DOURO VINHATEIRO HALF MARATHON 2026

1. ORGANIZATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1 Organizing Body

The 19th Douro Vinhateiro Half Marathon is organized by GlobalSport – GSX Portugal Lda, with headquarters at Rua Delminda Pinto Ribeiro, nº 17, 5050-346 Poiares – Peso da Régua,
NIPC 514779012.

1.2 Location

The event takes place in the Douro Wine Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, covering the municipalities of Peso da Régua, Lamego and Armamar.

1.3 Legal framework

The event is duly licensed by the competent authorities and complies with all applicable legislation on sporting events, security and data protection.

2. MODALITIES AND CATEGORIES

2.1 Modalities available

2.1.1 Half Marathon (21.097 km)

– Eligible participants: Born in 2008 and earlier (minimum age 18 on the day of the race)
– Character: Competitive, with official timing
– Time limit: 3 hours
– Certification: Course certified by the Portuguese Athletics Federation

2.1.2 Walk (5 km)

– Eligible participants: All ages
– Character: Non-competitive, recreational
– Compulsory: Wearing the official event t-shirt
– Timing: Not applicable

2.2 Age groups (Half Marathon)

Age is calculated based on the year of birth, taking into account the date of the race (May 24, 2026):


Note: A minimum of 3 participants of the same gender must be on the starting line for a class to be formed. Unincorporated classes will be integrated into the immediately preceding
class.

3. DATE, TIME AND DURATION

3.1 Date and time

– Date: May 24, 2026 (Sunday)
– Half Marathon start: 09h00
– Walk start: 09h20

3.2 Time limit

– Half Marathon: 3 hours maximum (closing at 12 noon)
– Walk: No specific time limit

3.3 Reopening to traffic

After the last of the organization’s vehicles has passed, participants who remain on the route may continue under their sole responsibility and must comply strictly with the Highway Code.

4. REGISTRATION

4.1 Registration process

– Official platform: https://events.globalsport.pt
– Confirmation: Only after full payment
– Proof: Available in the participant’s personal area

4.2 Data Liability

The participant is fully responsible for the accuracy, veracity and authenticity of all the data provided in the registration. Incorrect data may result in disqualification. By completing the registration, the athlete is freely and fully accepting the Race Regulations.

4.3 Payment terms

4.3.1 Payment deadlines

Payment must be made within the deadlines indicated on the platform. Failure to comply will result in automatic cancellation of the registration.

4.3.2 Refund policy

No refunds will be made under any circumstances, except in the following situations:

– Cancellation of the event due to force majeure
– Payment after the deadline (subject to a €10 management fee)

4.3.3 Service fees

– Change of data: €5 (until March 24, 2026)
– New registration after cancellation: €5
– Refund processing: €5

4.4 Transfers and assignments

The assignment, transfer or sale of bibs to third parties is expressly forbidden. Violation of this rule will result in:

– Immediate disqualification
– Prevented from taking part in future editions
– Results annulled

4.5 VIP Dorsals

Participants can apply for a VIP bib until May 1, 2026, upon proof of time spent in the last two years:

– Male: Less than 1h15min
– Female: Less than 1h20min

5. PRICE STRUCTURE 2026

5.1 Half Marathon (21.097 km)

5.2 Walk (5 km)

5.3 Special conditions

– Participants up to 9 years old: €3.00 (walk only)
– Processing fees: Added to the prices shown
– Authorized partners: May offer special conditions

5.4 Invoicing

The invoice must be requested within 3 days of payment, via the
registration platform.

6. PARTICIPATION KIT

6.1 Kit contents

– Dorsal with integrated timing chip (21k)
– Official technical event T-shirt
– Official medal (21k)
– Sponsors’ promotional material
– Event instructions and information

6.2 Kit survey

– Required documents: Proof of registration and photo ID
– Pick-up by third parties: Allowed on presentation of original proof
– Venue and dates: To be announced in due course on the official website

6.3 Availability of sizes

If the requested size is out of stock, an alternative size will be offered.

6.4 Obligations of the Participant

It is compulsory to write on the back of the bib:

– Full name
– Emergency contact
– Relevant medical information (allergies, medication, special conditions)

7. TIMING AND CLASSIFICATIONS

7.1 Timing system

– Technology: RFID chip integrated into the bib
– Mandatory placement: Bib clearly visible on the front of the chest
– Controls: Start, intermediate points and finish line
– Non-transferability: Each chip is personal and non-transferable

7.2 Disqualifications

Participants who:

– Use another athlete’s chip
– Use multiple chips
– Don’t register at mandatory controls
– Don’t keep their bib visible throughout the race

7.3 Publication of results

– Platform: https://meiamaratonadouro.pt
– Deadline: Provisional results up to 2 hours after the event
– Changes: Possible upon verification of irregularities

8. SUPPLIES AND SERVICES

8.1 Refueling Stations (Half Marathon)

– 5 km: Water
– 10 km: Water and isotonic drink
– 15 km: Water and isotonic drink
– Meta: Water, isotonic drink and fruit

8.2 Refueling Stations (Walk)

– Intermediate point: Water
– Goal: Water and fruit

8.3 Climate Adaptations

The posts can be reinforced or repositioned according to weather conditions.

8.4 Wardrobe

– Location: Start/finish area
– Identification required: Participant’s bib
– Liability: The organization is not responsible for valuables or fragile objects

8.5 Showers

Available at a place and time to be announced on the official website.

9. MEDICAL CARE AND SAFETY

9.1 Medical Cover

– Medical teams: Positioned along the route
– Ambulances: Specialized in sporting events
– Continuity: Referral to National Health Service when necessary.

9.2 Sports Insurance

– Compulsory cover: All non-federated participants
– Activation: Compulsory notification to the organization in the event of a claim
– Moderating fees: Responsibility of the participant, which may be reimbursed by the insurer if the process meets the necessary requirements

9.3 Event security

– Security forces: Police and local authorities
– Private security: Licensed company duly identified
– Identified volunteers: Support and guidance for participants
– Compulsory collaboration: Participants must follow instructions from the authorities

9.4 Safety restrictions

The following are expressly forbidden:
– Unauthorized vehicles on the route
– Participation with bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades
– Accompaniment by animals
– Use of equipment that compromises safety

10. AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS

10.1 Participation medals

All Half Marathon participants who complete the course within the time limit receive an official medal.

10.2 Monetary prizes (Half Marathon)

10.2.1 General Classification

Prizes for the top ten male and female finishers

10.2.2 Age groups

Prizes for the top finishers in each class (M/F40, M/F45, M/F50, M/F55, M/F60), as long as at least 10 runners of the same gender finish.

10.3 Trophies

Trophies for the top 3 in the men’s and women’s overall standings, awarded at the official ceremony.

10.4 Award conditions

– Non-accumulation: Participants receive the highest value prize
– Claim deadline: 30 days after the event (mandatory form available on the event’s official website – www.meiamaratonadouro.pt
– Documentation: Mandatory for payment: green receipt or individual act
– Taxation: Subject to current tax legislation

11. ARBITRATION AND APPEALS

11.1 Jury

Responsibility of the Regional Refereeing Council of the Vila Real Athletics Association.

11.2 Infringements and penalties

These are infringements:

– Failure to check in at the start
– Failure to complete the entire course
– Failure to wear a visible bib on the chest
– Falsifying registration details
– Using a third party’s bib
– Running on sidewalks
– Intentionally harming other participants

11.3 Appeals and complaints

– Deadline: 30 minutes after the results are known
– Form: In writing to the race jury, at the race venue
– Security deposit: €100 (returned if appropriate)
– Location: Official event secretariat

12. ANTI-DOPING CONTROL

Participants may be subject to anti-doping controls, in accordance with the regulations of the Portuguese Anti-Doping Authority (ADoP) and World Athletics.

13. DATA PROTECTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

13.1 Handler

13.2 Purposes of processing

– Management of entries and participations
– Preparation of rankings
– Activation of compulsory insurance
– Marketing and communication

13.3 Participants’ rights

Right of access, rectification, erasure, portability and opposition, exercised through info@globalsport.pt.

13.4 Transfer to third parties

Data may be transferred to:
– Insurance companies (mandatory)
– Marketing partners (subject to consent)
– Competent authorities (when legally required)

13.5 Declaration of Responsibility

By registering, the participant declares:

– Be in suitable physical condition
– Exclude the organization from liability for accidents
– Authorize the use of image and data for promotional purposes
– Fully accept these regulations

BY COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION, THE PARTICIPANT DECLARES:

“I am in excellent health to take part in the Douro Vinhateiro Half Marathon 2026. I exclude all responsibility from the organization, sponsors or other participating institutions for any accident or injury that I may suffer before, during and/or after the sporting event, waiving any legal action against any of the aforementioned entities. During the course of the competition I will contribute as much as possible to the Organization to avoid personal accidents. I also authorize the Organization to make publicity use of the photos, videos and any other type of audiovisual material in which I may appear, accepting the publication of my name in the classification of the race, in the media and/or internet, without expecting any payment, compensation or retribution for this object.”

13.6 Medical recommendations

The organization strongly recommends prior medical assessment, especially for participants over 35 or with a history of cardiovascular problems.

14. CANCELLATION AND FORCE MAJEURE

14.1 Causes of Cancellation

The event can be canceled due to:

– Natural disasters
– Government restrictions
– Unavailability of roads
– Strikes or demonstrations
– Other force majeure situations

14.2 Procedures

In the event of cancellation, the organization will issue an opinion within 30 days on the measures to be adopted, which may include:

– Rescheduling the event
– Partial or total refund
– Transfer to the next edition

15. FINAL PROVISIONS

15.1 Omissions

Situations not provided for in these regulations will be resolved in accordance with:

1. General Competition Regulations of the Portuguese Athletics Federation
2. World Athletics Regulations
3. Organization’s decision

15.2 Amendments to the Regulation


The organization reserves the right to change these regulations for safety, technical or legal reasons, with prior notice to the participants.

15.3 Official language

These regulations are written in Portuguese. In the event of a translation, the Portuguese version
will always prevail.

15.4 Jurisdiction

For the resolution of disputes, the Vila Real District Court has jurisdiction.
